Purpose of award: To encourage outstanding students to pursue teaching careers and to encourage current teachers to get endorsements in shortage areas.
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be Washington residents who plan to earn a residency teacher certificate or a shortage subject endorsement, intend to become employed as a classroom teacher in a Washington public primary or secondary school, plan to attend college half-time or more and are not planning to pursue degrees in theology. Selection is based on academic ability, bilingual ability, contributions to schools, length of time until education is completed and commitment to work as a Washington public school teacher.
