University of Amsterdam Scholarships


University of Amsterdam invites applications from international students for the Bachelor's, Master's, Research Master's, Advanced Master's and PhD programs. University of Amsterdam is among the top 15 universities in Europe and the leading one in the Netherlands according to the Times QS World University Rankings 2009.

The programs are avaliable in the widest range of academic fields, such as business and economics, MBA, cultural and communication studies, law, linguistics and literature, journalism and media, social and exact science, etc. The UvA has one of the largest numbers of international study programmes of any university in Europe, with over 100 taught in English and several of the courses offered being unique to the UvA.

All international study programmes are fully taught in English, except for the Masters in the modern European languages German, Italian, French, Modern Greek, Romanian, Scandinavian, and Spanish, which are taught in the target language. For all international programmes except the Masters in modern European languages listed above, students who are non-native English speakers are required to have passed a test in English. Depending on the specific programme requirements, this test can be the TOEFL, IELTS, or Cambridge test. Some departments or programmes do not accept the TOEFL or other test scores. Always make sure to check the programme description carefully to find out which test you should take.

Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships 2012-2013


The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) aim to develop leadership and build partnerships and linkages within the Asia-Pacific, while addressing priority development issues of the region. Applications for the 2011 intake open on 10 March 2010 and close on 30 June 2013.

The ALA program comprises ALA Scholarships and ALA Fellowships. These awards are for leaders or those who have potential for leadership roles that can influence social and economic reform, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region.

ALA Scholarships are for study at Masters or Doctorate level in an Australian university. Study programs must relate to a priority development area: disability, economic growth, education, environment, food security, gender, governance, health, human rights, infrastructure, regional stability, rural development, water and sanitation. ALA scholars also undertake a Leadership Development Program in Australia.

As ALA Scholarships are an investment in the future of the Asia-Pacific region, ALA scholars are required to return to their home country or the region for two years after they have completed their studies in Australia.
Selection for ALA Scholarships is competitive, based on leadership qualities, academic excellence and potential impact on return home. To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria.

Previous scholarships
You must not have held a scholarship to study outside your home country in the 24 months preceding the application closing date. For example: the application closing date is 30 June 2010. You would meet this requirement if you arrived home from your overseas study on 30 June 2008.

English proficiency
You must have acceptable results from one of these English language proficiency tests, gained no longer than 24 months prior to the opening date of the Scholarship application period.
  • an IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5 (with no band less than 6), or
  • a TOEFL paper-based test score of at least 580, or
  • a TOEFL computer-based test score of at least 237, or
  • a TOEFL internet-based score of at least 92.
University offer
You must have an unconditional offer for a postgraduate course (either Masters or Doctorate) starting in the year for which you are applying for a scholarship, to be undertaken full-time at an Australian campus of one of the participating institutions.

PhD in International Economics at University of Hohenheim


University of Hohenheim (Germany) invites applications for the open PhD position in International Economics. The successful applicant will work within the project “The effect of international trade on job flows, wages, and unemployment: The role of search frictions and firm heterogeneity”.

This project is funded by the Thyssen Foundation. It is co-directed by Prof. Gabriel Felbermayr at Universität Hohenheim (Stuttgart) and by Prof. Julien Prat at IAE Barcelona. The candidate should hold a graduate degree (Master or German Diplom) in economics, preferably with a background in trade theory and/or labor economics. He/she should have good quantitative skills, some training in econometrics, as well as a good command of English. The successful candidate carries out doctoral research. She/he takes part in an international cooperation between IAE Barcelona and Universität Hohenheim. She/he also benefits from the doctoral program offered by Tübingen-Hohenheim Economics e.V., from a close integration into the International Economics Group at Universität Hohenheim, and from the support offered by the FZID Recearch Center.

The successful candidate is based in Stuttgart during academic terms. The monthly stipend is EUR 1500 net of taxes. Additional funds for travel and IT are available. A supplementary assignment as teaching assistant is possible. The contract runs for an initial period of two years, but is renewable.

Rhodes International Postgraduate Scholarships 2012-2013


The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards supporting exceptional all-round students at the University of Oxford. Established in the will of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, the Rhodes is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international graduate scholarship program in the world. A class of 82 Scholars is selected each year from Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica and Commonwealth Caribbean, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan, Southern Africa (including South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, and Swaziland), United States, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Intellectual excellence is required of Rhodes Scholars, but it is not enough to earn this outstanding educational opportunity.

Rhodes’ vision in founding the Scholarship was to develop outstanding leaders who would be motivated to “esteem the performance of public duties as their highest aim.”

His will outlines four criteria to be used in the election of Scholars:

82 Rhodes Scholars are selected annually from 14 countries or groupings of countries around the world. Eligibility criteria for the Rhodes Scholarship

The following eligibility criteria apply to all applicants for the Rhodes Scholarships:

* Citizenship and residency: Each applicant must fulfil the citizenship and residency requirements of the Rhodes constituency for which they are applying. Please check the detailed information carefully via the country links.
* Age: Age limits vary between constituencies and range from a minimum age limit of 18 to a maximum of 28 by 1 October of the year following election. In most constituencies, the age limit is 24 or 25. Please check carefully the specific age requirements for your constituency before applying.

Rhodes Scholars may read for any full-time postgraduate degree (including the BA with senior status over two years) at the University of Oxford. At the discretion of the Trustees, the Scholarship may be extended for a third year for those who take a recognized route to the DPhil. The Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and the Masters of Financial Economics (MFE) are only tenable in the second year of the Scholarship.

The Institute for European Integration Research (EIF) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences now invites: applications for the position of full-time researcher at the post-doctoral level. The Institute for European Integration Research (EIF) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (www.eif.oeaw.ac.at) focuses on the policies of the European Union and their direct and indirect effects on both the national and global levels. Political science is our disciplinary basis for theoretically-oriented empirical research that frequently compares EU policy areas. EIF researchers regularly publish in SSCI journals such as JCMS, JEPP and WEP. Recent books and chapters from our team have been published by Oxford University Press, Ashgate and Routledge.

EIF contributes to the academic community with high-quality open source publications, research databases and state-of-the-art analyses. Doctoral Schools/International PhD Courses at the University of Padova

The University of Padova, Italy, through the funding of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, offers research fellowships for foreign students to attend Doctoral Schools/International Courses.

For the academic year 2012/2013 Università degli Studi di Padova, Italy, offers 15 research fellowships for foreign students to attend Doctoral Schools/International Courses (see annex 1 at the University website for the full list of doctoral schools and international doctoral courses and related research lines).

The duration of the doctoral courses is three years, starting on the 2nd January 2011 and ending on the 31st December 2013. Each position will be covered by a scholarship of 13.638,47 Euro (before tax) per year, fully funded by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo. During the 3-year doctoral programme (2011-2013), the successful candidates will be offered full board and lodging at the ESU – Azienda Regionale per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario. The connected charges will be covered by Università degli Studi di Padova through Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicants are required to meet the following criteria in order to be eligible:
- To have foreign (non-Italian) citizenship;
- To have foreign (non-Italian) residence. Candidates must be in possession of this requirement within the deadline date.
- To have a foreign (non-Italian) academic qualification acknowledged as equivalent to the Diploma di Laurea/ Laurea Specialistica/Magistrale (at least four years of full time university education and allowing to apply for doctoral schools in the country where it was obtained). The acknowledgement of the equivalence of the academic degree will be done by the relevant body of the Doctoral School/International Course, for the sole purpose of this competition.
HOW TO APPLY
The application to the competition, written by filling in the relevant forms available at the website: http://www.unipd.it/en/doctorates/grants.htm must arrive within the 2nd September 2010 in two original copies and must be accompanied by the following documents:
- A Curriculum Vitae (see forms A1, A2 and B3) describing the main educational and work experiences as well as the list of publications;
- Study/Research plan (see form B1)
- Personal Statement (see form B2)
- Two letters of reference by professors or experts who have supervised the research and study activities of the candidate. Each of this letters must be put in a sealed envelope signed by the professor/expert and sent along with the application form;
- Two Certificates of the academic degree with the list of the examinations and of the marks and any other certificate that can be helpful for the evaluation of the candidate (e.g. linguistic competences, awards etc.)
- Two copies of the abstract of the thesis (between 3 and 10 pages), if a thesis was written in order to achieve the degree.
If the above documents are not written in Italian or English language, they must be accompanied by a translation in Italian or English language.

SCHOLARSHIPS
The amount of the scholarship is 13.638,47 Euro per year. Scholarships are paid by monthly instalments. The first instalment is paid on the month following the actual beginning of the course. The fruition of the scholarship is conditional on the compliance with the provisions of Annex 2 – General Terms and Conditions for Fellowship.
The amount of the scholarship is increased by 50% for periods of study abroad, excluding the official country of residence of the doctoral student. The periods of study abroad must be authorized by the competent body of the School/International Course.
BOARD AND LODGING
The successful candidates will be offered full board and lodging at the ESU – Azienda Regionale per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario for the three-year period of the scholarship (2011-2013).
ATTENDANCE FEES
The successful candidates will be exempted from paying attendance fees.
DOCTORAL STUDENTS’ DUTIES
Doctoral students must carry out regularly the activities pertinent to their approved research plan and, at the end of each year, they must present a report regarding the activities performed to the Doctoral Council of the School/International Course. At the end of the three-year programme, they will also have to present a Doctoral thesis with original contributions.
The relevant body of the School/International Course decides about the admission to the following year on the basis of the evaluation of the work performed by the PhD student. The relevant body of the School/International Course may, with a justified decision, suggest to the Rector the exclusion of the student from the Doctoral School/international Course.
ATTAINMENT OF THE DEGREE
The degree of “Dottore di ricerca” is attained once the final exam has been passed. This exam consists of a discussion with the candidate on his/her thesis and it can be repeated only once.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2012-2013


Established in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD programmes in Hong Kong’s institutions.

The Fellowship
The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600) and a conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for the awardees for a period of three years. About 135 PhD Fellowships will be awarded each academic year (academic year in Hong Kong normally starts in September). For awardees who need more than three years to complete the PhD degree, additional support may be provided by the chosen institutions. Eligibility
Those who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students in Hong Kong institutions funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC), irrespective of their country of origin and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.

Selection Panels
Shortlisted applications, subject to their areas of studies, will be reviewed by one of the two HKPF Selection Panels with experts in the relevant broad areas — one for science, medicine, engineering and technology and another one for humanities, social science and business studies.

Selection Criteria
While the academic excellence is of prime consideration, the Selection Panels will take into account, but is not limited to, the four yardsticks below for the selection of candidates:
  1. Academic excellence;
  2. Research ability and potential;
  3. Communication, and interpersonal skills; and
  4. Leadership abilities.
Application Process
Applicants may choose up to two programmes in one or two institutions for PhD study in their HKPFS applications. They are also required to submit application(s) for PhD admission to the relevant institution(s) directly for their selected programme(s). Applicants are therefore required to fully comply with the admission requirements of their selected institutions and programmes. The HKPFS 2011/12 will call for applications in September 2010. Detailed arrangements for the application process will be announced later.

The Graduate School in Social, Economic and Political Sciences (GSSEPS) of the University of Milan is now inviting applications from qualified candidates for its three-year PhD programme.

The Graduate School in Social, Economic and Political Sciences of the University of Milan offers five Ph.D. programs: Business History and Management, Economics, Labour Studies Political Studies and Sociology. Each program focuses primarily on advanced training in the respective discipline to enable students to master the dominant paradigms, research methods and essential literature. In addition, the Graduate School provides an opportunity for cross-disciplinary training in approaches and methods. The objective is to teach graduate students to combine the rigorous use of their disciplinary tool kit with knowledge of the tool kits of adjacent disciplines.

First year students of the four doctorates share the same working environment at the Graduate School. Second and third year students will work in close contact with their supervisor in the research departments partners of the School. Admission is open to candidates from all countries. European Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme 2012-2013


The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international researcher mobility programme offering 33 fellowships for the 2011/2012 academic year. It proposes 10-month residencies in one of the 14 participating Institutes: Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, Cambridge, Helsinki, Jerusalem, Lyons, Nantes, Paris, Uppsala, Vienna, Wassenaar. The Programme builds on the strong reputation of the Institutes for Advanced Study for promoting the concentrated, self-directed work of excellent researchers within the stimulating environment of a multidisciplinary and international group of fellows.

EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in natural and exact sciences, if their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities. The diversity of the 14 participating IAS - which have agreed on a common selection procedure - offers a wide range of possible research contexts in Europe for worldwide scholars. Applicants select up to three IAS outside their country of nationality or residence as possible host institutions.

The Programme welcomes applications worldwide from promising scholars at an early stage of their careers as well as from established senior researchers.

The selection of applicants who are eligible for a fellowship is competitive, merit-based and conducted through an internationally independent and recognised peer review process.

Postgraduate Internship 2012-2013 in Communications


ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability – is offering a post-graduate internship in communications in the World Secretariat in Bonn, Germany to support ICLEI’s global communications work. ICLEI is a worldwide association of more than 1,200 metropolitan regions, cities, towns, counties and municipal associations in 70 countries that are dedicated to implementing sustainable development. ICLEI provides technical consulting, training, and information services to build capacity, share knowledge, and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level.

Tasks and responsibilities of the intern:
The intern will support the communications team in general with internal and external communications, developing and running global campaigns and organizing press and media work; specifically:
- with researching and writing communications materials such as news bits, press releases, brochures, case studies, etc.
- assisting with website maintenance, web content and online newsletters
- supporting the planning and coordinating of direct mail campaigns
- maintaining media relations and developing the basis for furthering media outreach by researching targeted media contacts, publications and associations
- maintaining and expanding the publications and media library.

Elegibility
- degree in a relevant subject such as Communications, Public Relations, Journalism; or with a strong interest and some experience in communications work with a degree in Politics, Public Policy, International Relations/Development or similar

- Workings hours: 40h per week; 2 days of paid leave per month (i.e., 12 days for six months internship);

Connaught International Scholarship 2012-2013 for Doctoral Students at University of Toronto

The primary purpose of the Connaught International Scholarships for Doctoral Students is to assist graduate units in recruiting and supporting outstanding international scholars to the University of Toronto’s graduate programs. The effective value to each student in 2011-2012 will be $35,000.00 total (including tuition).


Value
  • The department will cover the cost of tuition at the domestic student rate plus the normal minimum funding in the graduate unit of $15,000 or higher (using the normal combination of Research and Teaching Assistantships, UofT Fellowships, etc.).
  • The Connaught Program will cover “top-up” funding to bring the total funding to $35,000 from the normal minimum in the graduate unit ($15,000 or higher).
  • Scholarships will continue in the same form throughout the normal period in the funded cohort (4 or 5 years, according to the standard duration of the department’s funding package
Eligibility
  • Nominees must be new international applicants applying to full-time doctoral or doctoral-stream programs within the funded-cohort (M.A., M.Sc., MASc, PhD).
  • Nominees must begin their program in the 2011-2012 academic year (no later than fall 2011) and cannot have been previously registered within UofT.

  • Deferral of admission will result in loss of the offer of the Connaught International Scholarship.
  • If a successful nominee does not accept the scholarship, SGS will offer a Connaught to the next individual on the SGS reversion list.
  • These scholarships are awarded to the students and graduate units may not automatically reallocate the scholarship.
Terms and Conditions
  • To maintain the award, students are required to be in full-time attendance at the University of Toronto, maintain an A- average, and be making satisfactory progress toward the completion of their degree as determined by their department. Repayment of the award is required if a student is in full-time attendance fewer than 14 weeks in any session.

CEU Master Scholarships 2012-2013


Central European University (Budapest, Hungary) currently accepts applications for 2012/2013 Master programs in various disciplines (economics, international relations, European studies, gender studies, history, legal studies, political science, etc.). Full and partial study grants are available.

Through the Hungarian Scholarship Board Office, the Hungarian Minister of Education and Culture offers scholarships for foreign students and professors of higher education institutions as well as research fellows who intend to gain further professional experience in Hungarian institutions of higher education or research.

Scholarships can be applied for under two systems:

BILATERAL AGREEMENTS
The Office of the Hungarian Scholarship Board (hereinafter HSB) welcomes applications by citizens of countries (and territories) that have a valid/effective educational co-operation programme with Hungary, or a bilateral agreement signed by the Hungarian Government or the Ministry of Education and Culture of Hungary and the relevant ministry of the given country (or territory). Assessment and shortlisting of applications is conducted by the relevant home country (or territory) scholarship authority or Ministry of Education, as well as dissemination of all information regarding the application procedure and deadlines. Applicants can apply for all scholarship types in the “scholarship pool” system. The scholarships offered in the bilateral agreements announced by the foreign partners are also categorized according to these scholarship types. In some cases the co-operation programme/bilateral agreement does not contain all the scholarships listed under the pool programme, hence they may not figure among the scholarships announced by the partner office. For citizens of countries that have a bilateral agreement and a partner scholarship office it is recommended to submit their applications directly to HSB, in the pool system, in case the bilateral agreement does not allow for a specific type of scholarship listed in the pool programme.
Applicants are exempt who gained admission to a tuition-free program at an institution of higher education (state-financed university, full-time program), where the working language is different from Hungarian.

The following scholarships are available in the Academic Year 2010/2011:
A – semester / partial studies (3-10 months)
Can be applied for by: undergraduate (BA/BSc) and graduate (MA/MSc) students, especially those majoring in Hungarian Language and Literature, as well as graduating students working on their theses, and students enrolled in “single track” university programmes (such as General Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacology, Veterinary Studies, Architecture and Jurisprudence). Before application, students are required to have completed minimum two semesters at their home institutions. For Type A scholarship, an applicant may submit an application only on one occasion during his/her BA studies, and on another occasion during his/her MA studies.
B - postgraduate studies, research (3-21 days or 1-10 months)
Can be applied for by: applicants holding a Master’s degree or an equivalent university degree, including PhD students who intend to do research for their dissertation, yet wish to stay in Hungary for less than 12 months. (However, PhD students cannot acquire credits at their host universities.)
C/1 – full PhD programme (36 months)
Only students proficient in Hungarian can apply, the scholarship is conditional upon successful entrance exam / admission to the respective doctoral school.
C/2 - partial PhD studies (12 months)
Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme at an accredited institution of higher education in his/her home country or in a foreign country (but not in Hungary).
D - postdoctoral studies / research (1-10 months)
Applicants must have a PhD or an equivalent degree.
E - research stay (3-21 days or 1-10 months)
For associate or higher ranking professors or for researchers holding minimum a PhD or an equivalent degree.
F – summer courses in the summer of 2009 (1-4 weeks)
Courses must be chosen only from the list of Summer Courses 2010 published on the HSB website.

GENERAL PROVISIONS
These scholarships allow for study or research in any field of arts and sciences during the granted period at an accredited Hungarian higher education or research institution to be determined in advance.
Semester, partial, postgraduate studies and doctoral programmes must be carried out in state-financed institutions where no tuition fee is required. For Type A scholarship, an applicant may submit an application only on one occasion during his/her BA studies, and on another occasion during his/her MA studies.
Type A (semester /partial studies) and type C1/C2 (full PhD and partial PhD studies) scholarships may not be extended. Type B (postgraduate studies), D (postdoctoral studies, research), and E (research stay) scholarships may be extended exceptionally, only under special circumstances, on one occasion. The scholarships are valid only for studies and research purposes in Hungary. HSB scholarships can only be used for conducting studies or research in Hungary, which means that scholarship-holders must stay in Hungary during the whole period of their studies or research.

The scholarships are awarded for the summer of 2010, or the academic year of 2010-2011, and these latter ones must be finished by 30 June 2011 at the latest.

CASES OF NON-ELIGIBILITY
  1. Foreign citizens with a residence permit or in the course of applying for a residence permit in Hungary cannot apply.
  2. Men and women, who have an employment contract or employment relationship as defined by the law in Hungary cannot apply.
  3. Students applying for part-time or correspondence study programmes cannot apply.
  4. Students applying for non state-financed universities cannot apply.
  5. Students admitted to tuition fee-paying institutions of higher education cannot apply.

Heinrich Boell Scholarships 2012-2013


The Heinrich Böll Foundation awards scholarships to German and foreign students in keeping with the guidelines provided by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Foreign Office (AA).

Deadline: 01/03/2013
Open to: students who are enrolled at state-recognized institution of higher education in Germany
Funding/scholarship: depends on income and personal assets
Eligibilty: the scholarship is awarded to German and foreign students ( from EU and non-EU countries).

Students, who did not gained their university entrance qualifications from a German school must be already enrolled at a state-recognized university or college (e.g. Fachhochschule) in Germany.

Three stages are involved when the Heinrich Böll Foundation selects applicants for its scholarships:
Stage 1: Submitting written application
Stage 2: Interview with a liaison lecturer
Stage 3: Selection workshop

Application process

The application documents include:
1. Application form
2. Letter of motivation (1 page)
3. Curriculum Vitae in tabular form (1 page)
4. Description of your previous studies, or school development and study plans in the case of school graduates (1 page)
5. Personal reference from a third party on your socio-political involvement
6. Expert reference from a university or college lecturer or a school teacher for school graduates
7. Copies of school graduation certificates/qualification for university entrance
8. Copy of intermediate exam certificate and/or the first degree certificate, if already issued
9. Proof of current college or university enrolment
10. For foreign applicants: proof of German language skills e.g Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH), TestDaF, Goethe Institute certificates, or similar)

The documents should all be written in German ( apart from personal reference and expert reference)

The three sets of the application documents need to by sent by 1 March, 2013 to:
